Places That Don’t Stay In One Place: The House Of Wonders
We have no background at all about the House of Wonders. Historians can trace it back at least 1,000 years with certainty and legends and stories make it at least half again that old.
We can’t tell you much about the inside of the house, since the only people who have seen it have never come out again.
We do know that it is, at least some of the time, a real house, built of wood with glass windows and a small front yard. It is most often said to be painted yellow with red trim. It is 3 stories tall and in excellent condition.
We also know that the house first appears in the dreams of people who are desperately sad in their day to day lives. Perhaps they are among an oppressed minority…or they have lost their family…or they are very sick…whatever the reason, these poor souls start dreaming of the house. At first, they just see it as they walk by in some dream where they are doing something. Later, the dreams have more and more to do with the house. Eventually, they have a dream where they walk into it and find…something. What that something may be is probably dependent upon the person, but we know that when they wake up, they go looking for the house. They usually find it, music pouring out of the open windows along with the sounds of happy people partying. Then they go inside and, after about a minute, the house just fades away. Nothing can stop the person from going inside and only they can go inside. It seems that some force makes them hard to hold onto and they pay no heed to anyone who talks to them. Nothing can stand in their way.
We regret deeply, my Lords & Ladies, that this is all we know about the House of Wonders.
