The Middle Of Nowhere: Rest Stop #5

.

If you happen to be driving along a long and lonely stretch of highway late at night, you may see Rest Stop #5. The exact name may vary, depending upon the country you are in, but it will always look like any other rest stop, with the exception of the yellow neon sign that shows the name.

If you stop at Rest Stop #5, you will leave something behind, but find that you’ve acquired something else. You might come up missing a pair of socks, but find that you now own a box of chocolates. A missing bottle of soda might be replaced with a sweater. You never know the switch has happened until you are miles down the road.

Don’t try to get back to Rest Stop #5, because it won’t be where you remember it.

Things That Blow Up Real Good: Fire God Flowers

.

On the Venus of the Earth 450-S reality, you’ll find a mostly desert planet. There is not a lot of surface water and most of what there is can be found in the long shallow rivers that flow into one of the two small seas. About half of all the living things on the planet live along these rivers.

One of the most interesting things you’ll find here are the Fire God Trees, so called because the grow large, up to 30 feet tall, and produce flowers that can burst into flames when they dry up and hit the ground. The small explosion of fire causes seeds to be released and scattered for up to 50 feet. The Venusians gather up these flowers and use them as weapons in their tribal battles.
