Pulp Era Villains: Yarkov
.
Vasily Yarkov had been a member of the Russian Imperial Court before the Revolution. He was young, strong and handsome. His family expected big things from him.
Then the revolution started and he was on the wrong side. Beaten, tortured and finally sentenced to life in prison, things looked hopeless.
Then the train carrying prisoners derailed and Yarkov escaped with 300 others. Most of them got re-captured, but Yarkov made his way out Russia, eventually winding up in Great Britain in 1928.
Intent on becoming wealthy enough to get revenge upon the people that had mistreated him, the now rather frightening looking Yarkov went into the business of crime. Robbery, smuggling, murder, extortion…Yarkov and his gang did it all, both in the UK and on the continent.
Unfortunately for the crimelord, he was soon going up against both the mysterious “Inspector X” and the female French crimefighter, Danger Lily. Working together, they ended Yarkov’s criminal career in 1934, by the simple expedient of shooting him dead on London Bridge.

Pulp Era Villains: Iron Mask
.
In 1930, rumors began to surface of a large man whose face was totally covered by an iron mask. This man, the rumors said, was building up a fanatical following of men and women who thought he was a demi-god. The fact that India is a very large country, combined with the fact that religious cults came and went, did not cause the authorities to show much concern.
Then, in July of 1932, Iron Mask and his 3,000 followers began attacking villages and towns, killing anyone that refused to join them. The police and military were sent in to stop it. After nearly a month of chasing the cult, the last hundred or so were rounded up.
Iron Mask was not among them.
Over the next seven years, Iron Mask would pop up with a new group of cultists. Around 1937, they had pretty much devolved into a murderous criminal gang.
Iron Mask was last seen fleeing into the jungle. Despite several extensive searches, he was never found. He is believed to have died, possibly the victim of a tiger attack.
