Critter Con 14
Con Day 4: We plow through the dealer’s room again, get in those final games, watch Grandpa & Uncle Spike take questions, and say goodbye with pie and ice cream.
We started our day with about 28 of us going to Big Breakfast, and eating huge amounts of food.
And just to make things easy, before we started writing this at 8:30 pm tonight, we queried everyone about where they ate lunch, and these were the places.
Ring of Fire
The Weenie Cart
Killerburger
Big Mama’s Badass Burger
Taco The Town
Moe’s Bronx Deli
Pizza My Heart
Everyone went to play a fast game or two, and then most of us went off to the Dealers Room to spend more money on games and general geekery. Our apartment is going to need a new room. Maybe two.
While a bunch of us were buying stuff, Grandpa and Uncle Spike were at their two traditional last seminars, “We Loves It, We Hates It” and “Ask The GMs Anything”. This year, both of them had people watching the livestream get involved.
The first panel was the usual love/hate fest, with particular hate given to all things COVID and Trump related. The second panel had 8 GMs and a moderator (Hi, Moose!) answering gaming and not so gaming related questions. A couple of highlights were a lively discussion of terrible RPG books, and each GM answering “What was your greatest GM fuck up?”. Some of their fuck ups were hilarious.
With their seminars over, Grandpa, Uncle Spike, and a few others met up with us in the Dealers Room and took their final turn spending money. We’ll note here that Grandpa & Uncle Spike hit the used game vendors very hard. Because, you know, neither of them owns enough old ass games.
Back at the hotel for a short relax, we all just chatted as Bob, Bing, Bud, Lou, Charlie & Buster packed up all our things and put them on the bus.
At 6:00, the announcement came that the con was over and the “Pie & Ice Cream Cool Down Party” would start at 6:30. We all headed over to it, our tummies empty and ready for delicious pie & ice cream.
Folks, they had 40 kinds of pie and 40 flavors of ice cream and most of us did our best to try as many of each as possible. We also chatted with folks and said many goodbyes.
And then, a few minutes before 7:45 when the party ends, Grandpa got all 23,000 people there to sing Bohemian Rhapsody.
You thought we’d forgotten, didn’t you?
With the party over, we all went on the Bus, did our hugging & kissing & goodbyes, then started getting beamed or portaled home. The two of us and the guinea pigs were the last to go, leaving the Grands, Mom & Sam to drive back home over the next 3 days.
And now it’s time to send this report to Grandpa and then catch up on what’s gone on in Gorilla City over the past 2 weeks. Tomorrow, it’s back to University.
Stay safe and we’ll catch you later.
