“You’ve copied over half of the book, I see. Excellent speed, that. Took me nearly a week to copy the entire thing, but then, they wanted it legible and my writing is barely passable at slow speeds.” He paused to sip his own tea, which Seyan noted was just as dark as hers.

“I expect that you’ll finish the book by this evening. When you do, we will have a little talk and then I’ll take you to yet another part of this secret area of the Museum. There, you will learn more about your mission, as well as gather up the items you might need out in the world. I think you’ll find some of them very interesting. For now though, have you learned anything from the book and do you have any questions?”

Seyan swallowed the piece of bacon she had been chewing and nodded. “Yes to both, Master. I’ve learned that the Ancient Humans who survived were mostly unaware of exactly what had happened to their world. Many seem to have just wandered about, while others gathered in groups and some just went slowly insane. The Star People did not choose any particular group to survive, just random people, sometimes in small groups, but mostly single individuals. That whole part made for very sad reading.”

She ate a bit of egg and toast before going on. “Am I correct in thinking that the Cities and Towns and other things were taken apart to become the caches of raw materials people sometimes find now?”
