It took only about 5 minutes to reach the Post Office, which was closed at this time of night. The small stable was just behind it and Dree knew it held six horses. He had often stopped by after school to talk with Mr. Dunder, the stableman, and feed the horses bits of apple. He had even been allowed to sit on some of the horses, especially the big red gelding, Koro.

They were almost to the stable door when Henk stepped out of the shadows. They all stopped and stared at the big guard. If he blew his whistle, they were as good as caught. Bevan clenched his fists, but none of them spoke.

Henk looked at them a couple of seconds, then spoke softly. “If I had any love for the Museum or my job, I’d blow this whistle and collect a nice reward. Pretty lucky for you that I don’t give a dog’s ass for either. Pretty unlucky for me that you jumped me from behind and knocked me out before escaping on those horses inside that strangely still have their saddles on.” He grinned now and Dree ran up and gave him a hug. He patted the boys head gently.
