Chapter Twenty Two: Sadness At The Pleasant Rest Inn
At just about the time that Dree had walked out the back door of the inn, his mother had heard Helma’s bell ring. Since the ground floor was nearly empty after her husband and almost everyone else had run outside, she started up the stairs to see what her grandmother needed. The old woman was very frail and would not live much longer.
When she entered the room, Mrs. Brunfelder knew that Grandma Helma was dead. She was so pale, yet peaceful looking. Ringing the bell must have been her last act in life. It was said that Storytellers chose their last act right before their last breath.
