Chapter Twenty Four: The Long Ride
The trail that ran thirty five miles through the desert, from the Museum to the nearest Road, was rough and better for horses or foot travel than it was for a bicycle or, in this case, a quadcycle. The one that High Curator Porcero was riding in barely did ten miles an hour on the best sections, so it had taken over four hours to reach the Museum trade station that sat where the Road and the trail met.
Realizing that his people needed their strength, he told all four quadcycles to stop here for half an hour. The trade station was empty, since the next caravan was still some weeks away, but they could drink water from the well and eat some roadfruit. By the time they hit the road again, all of them were refreshed and ready.
