A New, Semi Regular Gaming Experiment

This will be a GMless experiment in running an LJ game based upon each player representing an island nation and the people who live on it. The rules will be as simple as I can make them. You can play or just watch as frequently as you like. No pressure on anything.

The Rules

1: Your island is about 500 square miles in area. You can shape it any way you like within that total area. The islands terrain is up to you. Climate can range from temperate to tropical.

2: Give the island a name.

3: You have 50,000 people on your island. You are some form of human. Race, size, culture, religion, etc. are all up to you.

4: Technology is at a pre-industrial level…or lower, if you want.

5: No magic, altho there can be magical creatures.

6: A turn = 1 year. Your turn can be as long or as short as you like.

7: Every turn/year, you get 1,000 ZOTS to use. You can use them in the following ways:

1 ZOT = 5 new adults added to your population and/or 50 units of any resource added to your total.

5 ZOTS = a minor discovery of some sort. Could be scientific or technological, could be information about the wider world, could be something spiritually enlightening, could just be some new resources.

10 ZOTS = a major discovery of some sort

8: Resources are: Food (1 unit feeds 1 person for a year) , Metal, Coal, Lumber, Horses (or equivalent), Minerals (mostly used for medicine or making useful compounds), Stone and Trade Goods (cloth, pottery, books, booze, etc)

9: You start with 100,000 units of food and 2,000 units of everything else. We will hammer out what a unit of the other items equals.

10: All of you have small, shallow water boats for fishing and such. None of you have ocean going ships yet.

11: Once you have ships and can explore, we’ll work out where everyone is located.

12: If I’ve left anything out (and I’m sure I have) let me know.

13: If we need to hash things out, we’ll use a poll to do it. Pre-poll arguments for your case (such as, how many of each resource to build a fair sized ship) are very much encouraged.

14: Eventually, I hope to see diplomacy, plotting, betrayal, rampant capitalism, war, sex, violence, revolution, evolution and other cool shit happen.
