More Islands Of Adventure: Sliver Island

Located 30 miles from Port Robinson, Sliver Island is the longest island in the Tarkas Sea of Mars. It gets it’s name due to the fact that despite being 35 miles long, it is only about 1 mile wide down the entire length. The island is also very steep sided, with most of it rising to nearly 1,800 feet. Only at the very southern end does it drop down into a series of low rolling hills. It is here that the only permanent human habitation can be found at the town of Sliver End. About 3,000 people live there full time, but there are often an equal number of tourists, who mainly come to cruise around the island and look at the many waterfalls..

Most of Sliver Island is a preserve for for both the Martian Bighorn Sheep and the Barsoomian Mountain Lions that prey upon them. The Tarkas Eagle also nests here in large numbers and hunt for fish in the sea. In 2340 a group of 15 mated pairs of Pine Parrots were introduced and they are thriving on the pine nuts and blueberry grapes that the island has plenty of. At last count, there were 136 Pine Parrots on the island.

It is rumored that Wild Martians (those Martian humans that choose to live outside the regular Martian society) live on the island, but they have never been sighted if they do.
