Confessions Of A Time Traveler
But What Were They REALLY Like?
PART 1: The Fictionals
When you do a lot of traveling through time and alternate realities, you tend to meet a lot of famous people, both real and fictional. This causes people in your Home Reality/Time to ask the title question above, “what were they really like?”. Usually, this is about fictional folks, so that’s what I’ll cover this time. Here, then, are my answers to a few of the most famous fictional folks.
Frodo Baggins: He was much like he was portrayed in both the books and movies. Pre-”The Hobbit”, he is stodgy, overly cautious and somewhat boring. But after his trip to Erebor, he was no longer stodgy or overly cautious, and never boring. He was very fond of sitting around with friends and swapping stories over a few pipes and pints. Of course, there was the whole curse of the ring going on, but in one reality, we stunned him, took the ring and beamed it right into Mount Doom. End of curse, end of Sauron, end of the Third Age about 60 years early. Frodo was a bit saddened by losing the ring, but Gandalf set him straight and he was okay. Eventually,
that Frodo got married and had 5 kids.
Sherlock Holmes: The straight up canonical Holmes was, to be blunt, an egotistical dick. Oh, yes, he was brilliant and all, but quite insufferable. Sasha had enough of him and showed him all of the modern technology that would eventually render him quaint. She also called him a coke whore.
On the other hand, there is a Holmes in a substantially different world that I am proud to call my friend. You can read about him in one of my previous Confessions titled “Holmes, Sweet Holmes”.
Emma Peel: Brilliant, tough, kindhearted, sexy and deadly when necessary. Did I mention sexy? Emma was the exact sort of woman you want your daughter to grow up to be. She was great fun to hang around with and, perhaps not surprisingly, was a a great source of off color jokes, limericks and puns.
Pat Savage: See everything I said about Emma Peel, but American and cranked up to 11. Pat was bold, brassy, daring and she took zero shit from any man, including her famous cousin, Doc Savage. Most surprising to some people would be that on top of all her adventuring related skills, she was a top notch baker. Her double chocolate brownies were swoonworthy.
Montgomery Scott: Meeting the crew of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701, was one of the big thrills of my life, and that’s saying something. Scottie was one of my favorites. Friendly, able to discuss futuristic technology or the merits of Scotland over England with equal enthusiasm, a wonderful storyteller, and owner of some of the best whisky I’ve ever had. It was my great pleasure to let him look around the Bus with Sasha & Joe.
I’ll close this for now, but will cover more fictional folks in two weeks. After that, I’ll cover historical figures, movie stars and yes, toons.
