CritterCon #19

Con Day Zero/Pre-Wedding Day

(Note: Various commentary by those other than me is in italics.)

In which we see old friends, do a wedding rehearsal, grab our con stuff, and I make up for a big mistake.

The High Points

We Have Breakfast With A Mob

We slept in until 9:00 this morning, then had breakfast at Crepeville with a whole gang of old friends. This included Lorin Killoy, Gerry Chriest, Pat Sweeney, Nicole Lindroos, Chris Pramas, and about 30 others. We had a great and chaotic time eating and chatting, They are all looking forward to the wedding tomorrow.

Wedding Dry Run

The wedding rehearsal took place at noon on Holodeck 3 on The Bus. Only the necessary folks were there, dressed in our wedding garb. It was very colorful, and the ladies looked great in their India via Bollywood musical outfits. We gents looked like a bunch of sneaker wearing, puffy shirted, kilted rascals. The kids did their bit dancing down the aisle, tossing paper flowers.

After that, the Maids of Honor (Cupcake, Mara, Avis, Sarita, and Emily) and Groomsmen (Jeremy, Omar, Buck, Sameer, and Luko) took their places, then I stepped up on the stage and the 24 piece band started playing the “slow rave filtered through India and and They Might Be Giants” wedding march and Tucker and Blue came out dancing down the aisle. About 3 steps in, the bass dropped, the band picked up the tempo and my two grandchildren danced their asses off down the aisle. Next came Evan, dancing with his adopted mom, Amy. As they reached the stage, Grace came out and stood next to Tucker. The music stopped and I started the ceremony in Klingon, with a screen above me translating.

I won’t go through the whole speech, but I will say that when I asked “Who gives these people to each other?” and Grace said, “I, Grace, give my granddaughter, Tucker of House Koros, daughter of Sasha” And Amy said, “I, Amy, give my son, Evan of House Claus, Son of Santa”, Evan started to cry. See, his real family, aside from Jeremy, pretty much disowned him, and when Amy and Omar, who are Santa & Mrs Claus now, found out, they adopted him. So, emotions.

Anyway, the rehearsal went great and we all did a shot when it was over.

Oh, and our old friend, Darg of House Golor, said my Klingon was “good, for an old human.” I’ll take that.

The Con Swag Grab Bag

Wedding stuff done, we all went to our suite at the hotel to check out our con badges and swag. As you might expect when a con nearly doubles in size due to a once in a lifetime wedding, the swag leaned into the vibe.

First of all, the badges had holograms of the lucky couple on the back and were made of stainless steel. They are pretty cool, and just as light to wear as a regular badge.

Next was the t-shirt that had a cartoony picture of a huge gamer wedding under the words “CritterCon 19: How the hell do we top this?”

The swag bag itself was large and well made of canvas. It contained a boardgame “Spy Marries Spy”, a deck of cards for “Cows VS Chickens”, the rulebook for “Dungeons & Dogs & Dragons 3rd Edition”, tickets for discounts at 100 dealer booths, more tickets for free drinks & food at various restaurants, the con book made up to look like a wedding album, and finally, a special issue of “Power Dog Adventures: Wedding Chaos!” that Yoyo and his crew put together without any of us knowing.

All in all, the usual great swag bag.

I Finally Describe Tuck and Ev

It occurs to me that, while I’ve described Tucker as she looked when she was a dog, I’ve never drescribed her since she’s been human. Nor have I described Evan. I shall now fix that.

While the both go for non descript faces and bodies while doing the espionage thing, normally, they are considerably better looking.

Tucker is 5′ 8” tall and weighs about 130 pounds. He skin tone is light brown. She is fit looking and wears her hair, which is a light brown, at medium length. Her eyes are blue. She has no tattoos, but both her ears are pierced 3 times. She looks vaguely Hispanic. She is, according to her ID, 25 years old.

Evan is 6′ tall, weighs 150 pounds. His hair is short and blonde. His eyes are green and his left ear is pierced once. His skin color is fair and his looks are “California surfer.” He has no tattoos. Evan really is 25 years old

They are a cute young couple.
