What Did You Find?: At Old Jim’s Place
Sheriff, we rode on out to Old Jim’s shack like you said. He was dead out by the well. Shot twice in the chest. Killer was facing him. Jim had his shotgun, and it looks like he got off a good shot, because Harry found young Andy Sanders dead about a mile up the hill. He’d been gut shot.
Wasn’t much in that shack worth taking, but Andy had a couple ounces of gold on him. Only other things we could find was a book by some guy named Poe, half a bottle of whiskey, a letter from some lady named Molly, and Jim’s fiddle.
Anyway, we buried him proper and Tully said some words. We got Andy out on his horse. Figured his family would want to bury him.
