“She says that there are adventures and stories all over, if folks would just get on the Road and go looking for them. She traveled all over, starting when she was about my age and not stopping until she came back here at age 30. Even then, she only stayed around long enough to raise my grandpa up, then she was off for another 20 years. She’s been everywhere, even down to South America and across the sea to Europe. Or so she says. Dad claims there aren’t enough Towns on the Sea Tunnel Road for a Townie to make it that far. I think she did, though I’m not sure how.”
The lady drained her mug and said, “See? That’s what I mean! Everybody ought to travel, including me. But I’m afraid to. I’m afraid of my family getting mad, afraid I’ll get lonely, afraid of what’s out there.”
Dree thought about that for a moment, then said, “Are you more afraid of all that, or of not traveling at all? My Greaty says that sort of fear stops most people. Maybe you ought to sleep on it before you decide.”
