“Oh, they tried, Seyan. Over the first century or so, they attempted to send down devices to have a look at things, but the Cleansing Dust of the Star People was still in the atmosphere and it destroyed everything they sent. The devices would land, but then just melt away. The only message the space humans ever got through to us came in the early days of the second century, when the Museum was still fairly new. A meteor the size of this room crashed some miles north of here. When our team got there, they found the meteorite cracked open, but mostly intact, which should not be. The impact crater, which should have been very large, was almost nonexistent. Upon closer inspection, they saw that the meteorite contained steel plates with Old Writing on them. They told us that they could not come here, but that they would keep watching us and they wished us well. The tiny moons we see circling the night sky are their observation stations. Those steel plate messages, as well as that original meteorite, are locked away in the Sealed Library, by the way.”

He stood up then. Seyan could tell that he had just remembered something.

“I’ve got to go now, Seyan, but I’ll be back at sundown with some dinner for you. Until then, I’ve left a basket of food and drink for your lunch just outside the doorway. Enjoy your day and we’ll talk more tonight.” And then he was out the door and gone before Seyan could swallow her toast and say goodbye.
