…and he was good at it

A couple of minutes later, breakfast was done and Seyan was back to work on the book. She was now into a mix of the earliest days of the Museum and the time just before Roadrise. Most of the Museum part she already knew, but at least the rest of it told about the founding of several Cities and Towns. She worked fast to get beyond that part.
The hours flew by, with only bathroom breaks and lunch as interruptions. She had learned much in the last few hours, especially about the surprisingly regular attempts by Museum personnel to do exactly what the conspirators were trying to do now. It seemed that every 150 years or so, a new group would rise up and give it a go, always to be stopped by the current Grand High Curator and the loyal Museum staff. Sometimes, the victory came only by the slimmest of margins, as was the case with the last conflict 155 years ago. In that one, the conspiracy rose up one morning without any notice and there was bloody fighting that only ended when the Grand High Curator of that time managed to shoot the leader, a High Curator named Walten, with a crossbow bolt. Upon his death, some of his co-conspirators gave up and the rest were rounded up within a day. They then spent the rest of their lives working as they had always done, but stripped of any rank and always chained in pairs. Extensive notations all through this part of the book spoke of how each attempt by the conspiracy had learned from the one before. Many warnings were given that the next conspiracy might try new tactics not available to previous ones.
