She arranged a small stack of writing paper and her pen, then bent down slowly to the second drawer from the bottom on her desk. From it, she removed a small metal box and what looked like a four inch square of frosted glass. Attached to it was a small rod made of grey metal.

Despite not having used it in over fifty years, Helma had no trouble turning on the comslate and writing out her message.

“End very near. Great-grandson, Dree, and two others on mission to retrieve what you are all after, starting tonight. Location near Long Bay. Good luck. Will see you on the other side.”

She hit the button to send it out, then wrapped both the box and the comslate in her shawl,then put the bundle on her bed before she started writing.
