She opened her eyes and looked at him. There was little time left and her voice was weak when she spoke.
“Good…good. Now I want you to take that bundle there and keep it safe. Once you stop tonight or tomorrow to rest, there is a letter in there that you must read. After you read it, burn it, but never forget what it says.”
He nodded. “I’ll do that, Greaty, don’t worry.”
They sat and talked about leaving home and life on the road for several minutes, then she asked him the strangest question.
