…but not “nevermore”
CritterCon 17
CritterCon 17, Trip Day One
We left home at 7:00, which none of us knew because we were all still asleep. We woke up around 8:00 as Spock was going through Stockton, then around 8:30 we stopped for breakfast at Little Rudy’s Cafe in Manteca. It’s an NHT only place located inside an old warehouse on the edge of town.
The food was great and I’m sure thar Rudy (a Golden Retriever) and his staff were happy to have 49 hungry people eat there. He almost would not let us pay the check when he recognized Yoyo, Duke and Blue, but they insisted.
The next leg of the trip was up to Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite National Park, then about 6 miles without roads until we got to the location of a big party some bear friends were having. We arrived about 1:00 PM.
There were bear, deer, pumas, coyotes, and about 7 other species of NHT there, all celebrating summer. We brought gifts of honey, meat, bales of hay, and fresh veggies. There was singing and dancing and talking and general merriment for hours. We finally left about 7:15 and almost everyone fell asleep. My basset boytoy is snoring away next to me.
We are heading to Las Vegas now, and Spock tells me we’ll get there around 1:00 AM. We have a few NHT spots to visit tomorrow, two of them in Vegas and the rest in Arizona. I’m told that it’s almost 11 hours from Las Vegas to Las Cruces, New Mexico, but Spock assures us he can cut at least 3 hours off of that time.
Well, it’s time for me to get some sleep.
More reportage tomorrow!
