Chapter Twenty Five: Night Flight
Seyan had been terrified for the first thirty or seconds after Gertie was in the air, then she decided that she never wanted to travel any other way. She gave out a loud “Whoop!” and told Lahn, “This is incredible!”
He laughed at that, because it had pretty much been the reaction of both himself and Master Ohlong the first time they took Gertie out. That had been a much less certain flight and they had learned many things about zeppelin design and piloting, but all the same, they had fallen in love with flying. He knew Master Ohlong hated to see Gertie go, but he also knew that as soon as this rebellion was crushed, work would start on an outdoor hangar for a zeppelin three times Gertie’s size.
He pulled a chain for a few seconds, releasing some of the water that they used for ballast. Gertie began to rise up out of the canyon and he turned her slowly west. They would go that way for a while, then come back to do an aerial survey of the area around the Museum.
