Seyan looked at the air speed indicator and saw they they were doing seven miles an hour, which was pretty good against a light headwind. It was pretty easy to pedal and crank, easier than she would have thought given her cursory glance at the complex gear setup. Lahn had told her that once they turned east, they probably wouldn’t need to pedal or crank because the prevailing winds would do all the work.

The view was just spectacular as they rose up above the canyon rim and kept on climbing. In just a couple of minutes, she could see the twenty miles ahead to where the lights of North Rim and South Rim Towns glowed at each end of the Great Canyon Bridge. How beautiful they looked!

When the altimeter showed that they were a thousand feet above the canyon rim, Lahn turned them north, then when they were a couple of miles past the canyon, he turned east.

“Stop power.” he said. Seyan stopped pedalling and cranking. The air speed indicator showed them moving at twelve miles an hour now.

“Ok, Seyan, get out your telescope and start looking. Hopefully, we’ll find those traitors.”

For several minutes, they floated along, scanning the darkness below. Seyan saw nothing but darkness, but then Lahn said, “Ah ha, got ’em!” and she turned her telescope in that direction.
