Dree woke up just before sunrise with his stomach grumbling. For a moment, he was confused about where he was, but then he remembered it all. Next to him, Ala was still fast asleep, but on the other side, Bevan’s bedroll was gone.

Sitting up and looking around, he saw that Bevan was already up and had the horses saddled.

“Good morning, Dree.” he said as he tied his pack onto the back of his saddle. “Ready to hit the Road soon?”

Dree nodded. “I’m more ready to eat something.” He got up and went over to his pack and dug out some jerky and a biscuit. He was gnawing on the jerky as he watched Bevan wake up Ala. She woke up with a yelp and looked frightened for a few seconds.

“Relax, Ala, the Museum isn’t about to get you.” Bevan was smiling as he said that, but Ala didn’t seem to see the humor in it. Dree chewed his jerky with greater enthusiasm, the better to hide his own amusement.

“It’s not funny, you goof. I had dreams of getting caught all night.” She got up and stalked off into the woods, presumably to do her business.
