Alt. RPG Adventures: Air Pirates Over Asia
System: Airships Ahoy!
Rating (1-5): 5
Steampunk RPGs are the New Hotness and Airships Ahoy! Is up at the top of the list. The rules are adapted from Pulped!, so if you’ve played that, you’ll have no problems with this game.
First off, like their previous products in this line, the book is great looking. Layout is very clean and classy. The art, both black & white and color, is top notch. Not one of the 128 pages of this adventure is bad.
But “adventure” isn’t quite the proper description. This is really a sourcebook, some new rules, and a series that might run the suggested 8-10 sessions, but could just as easily run for years.
Simply put, you play either air pirates working the skies over Asia, or the authorities trying to stop them. I could see this being run at a convention with two groups going at it. We played pirates for 3 sessions, then Imperial Chinese Air Navy for 3 sessions. Both ways, we had tons of fun.
If all this sounds good to you, buy Air Pirates Over Asia.
