New Cryptids: Bug Eyed Man
Not all cryptids dwell in small towns or out of the way rural areas. The Bug Eyed Man of Spears Woods is right in the center of the greater Chicagoland urban sprawl. And he doesn’t just stick to the woods, either.
First sighted on September 16th of 2019, he came out of the woods near 6 teenagers who were walking near the Spears Woods picnic area. According to them, he was over 6 feet tall, dressed in rags, had very long black hair, arms that seemed too long, and bulging eyes the size of Ping-Pong balls. He stood for a few seconds, then rushed toward them growling. Panicked, they ran away. The Bug Eyed Man did not pursue them.
When police arrived, they searched the area, but found nothing except some large human footprints. It was determined that the feet would have worn a size 14 shoe. Tracking of the footprints lead to a wetlands area, where the trail was lost.
Over the next 26 months, the Bug Eyed Man was sighted 8 more times. Most of these sightings were in the Spears Park area, but three were in backyards a few blocks west of the park. Several searches were done using everything from dogs to drones with infrared cameras, but nothing was ever found beyond a few footprints. Security cameras have provided a few seconds of video, but most of that is very inconclusive.
The Bug Eyed Man has not been seen again since December of 2021.
