Small Town Secrets: Sylvia Gersten, County Coroner
Sylvia has been coroner for 12 years now. She does a really good job and has uncovered a few murders that looked at first glance like accidents, and one suicide that was set up to look like a murder. She won a state medal for that one.
Although she’s not married, Sylvia does have a long term relationship with Dr. Todd Knox over in Wallingford. She also does some teaching at the State Police Academy. Around town, she’s known as being friendly, if maybe a bit distracted sometimes. Given her job, most folks cut her some slack.
As for her secret, it’s pretty simple. See, she can learn exactly how a person died if she eats a small, raw, bit of them. Usually, this is a small bit of muscle tissue. After eating the flesh, she enters a short dreamlike state and gets all of her info. Then she need only do her coroner thing and write up the report. Pretty gross, but you can’t argue with success.
