Small Town Secrets: Will Popkin, Teenager
At 16 years old, Will has a bright future ahead of him. He gets very good grades, is popular both in and out of school, and is just a really nice guy. His family is well off, if not wealthy, due to a good sized inheritance left by Will’s paternal grandfather, an inventor of some note.
And it’s that grandfather that gave Will his big secret. It seems that Grandpa Will was a hell of a lot better inventor than anyone knew. His greatest inventions were 25 androids that, while looking quite human, were vastly stronger, faster, and tougher than any human. He also armed them with advanced weaponry and defenses, then put one each in major cities around the world.
Before he could get himself prepped to be able to use the control helmet and activate the androids, Grandpa Will found out about the cancer that would kill him in a few months. Knowing that somebody else would have to take his place, he turned to the only possible choice, 15 year old Will.
Will was a quick learner, so by the time Grandpa passed away in the hospital, he knew how to use pretty much everything in the secret lab deep inside Popkin Mountain, now part of a national wildlife refuge. A week after the funeral, Will activated the androids, who he and his grandfather had dubbed “The Agents Of Change.” Within days, they were stopping wars, crushing criminal gangs, outing crooked politicians, and helping out the poor and downtrodden. Around the world, the Agents are hugely popular with ordinary folks.
Which is why Will spends several hours each week controlling and programming the androids. They are still a long way from being fully sapient, but will is pleased with their progress. Of course, he also has to help them avoid the people who hate them, like orgaanized crime, most governments, billionaires, intelligence agencies, most militaries, and all law enforcement agencies. Most organized religions aren’t too happy about the Agents of Change, either.
So Will is learning to juggle being a world changing mastermind along with being a junior in high school. It’s a good thing he has Grandpa Will’s living brain in a jar to help him.
