Alt. Cross Family Dogs: Roscoe
Full Name: Roscoe Theodore Cross
Breed: Pitbull/Labrador
We adopted Roscoe in early 1977, after almost 5 years of traveling around the world and writing about it. We were expecting our first baby and saw Roscoe at the local shelter. He was a sweetheart and a big goofball. He was 5 years old and had been given up for adoption after his previous owner had died.
We brought him home and he adapted very quickly. He was pretty well trained and a fast learner. When the baby was born 4 months later, Roscoe decided that she was his baby, too, and he kept an eye on her and played with her once she was old enough. He was the same with our other three daughters. They all loved him.
Roscoe was incredibly healthy, never having had a sick day in the 10 years he was with us. He died of old age at 15 years, 5 months. He is buried 3 feet under an apple tree in our back yard.
