CritterCon #19
Con Day 2
(Note: Various commentary by those other than me is in italics.)
In which we now indulge in our usual CritterCon hijinx…and wallow in mud.
The High Points
I’m going to keep my part of this post fast and loose. Others may fill it in a bit.
Where We Ate
Since I had an 8:00 am game (a rarity for me) I avoided anyplace serving regular breakfast and grabbed a to go plate from Tamalemania. They were delish, as was the Mountain Dew I grabbed from Minks Cold Drinks. After the game, on my way to get naked in mud, I had a chili dog from Ed’s Big Weenie. Dinner was with the family at India Underground.
Games Played
That 8:00 am game I mentioned was the first in what will be a yearly ongoing series. It was called “Quest For The Eye Of Evil: Part 1.” The GM was Rita Sevencats, who is a legendary CritterCon GM, going back to the very first DogCon. She was 16 then, and is 35 now and her skills are just crazy good. She uses a variation on the Over The Edge rules.
This first adventure had 6 of us heading out from an ancient walled city called Temuskoral on a journey to first learn what, exactly, the Eye of Evil is. After many thrilling adventures, we finally got to the Grand Temple of K’olod and learned that the eye is, indeed a living eyeball the size of a tennis ball. And then the story ended and I dashed off for the mud bath.
The only other RPG I played in was a fast 1 hour Toon session run by Grindy, who did a fine job as Animator.
The Mudbath
At just after 12:00, 22 of us met at the hot mud salon, got naked, and slid into that lovely warm mud. The kids loved it, even Harry, who is a cat, but one who will frolic in water and mud just like his siblings. Notable non-mudders were Annie and Letty, who are both cats of a more normal stripe.
After the mud comes the shower and a massage. Then, for Spike and I, it was off to a seminar.
Seminars
Spike and I were part of an 8 person panel for “The Year In Gaming”, which covered everything from online gaming to TTRPG releases to game biz info. It was fun and the audience had plenty of questions.
I went from there to my oft given “How To Get Started Writing” solo seminar. I had about 40 people in the audience and we filled up the last 30 minutes of the hour with a good Q&A.
The Dealer’s Room
I met up with Grace, Mary, Blue, and three of his kids, to wander around part of the enormous Dealer’s Room. We saw a bunch of cool stuff, including an elephant designed boardgame that used a track and little push carts to gather up supplies to resell. It was quite creative.
We didn’t buy much, although the kids got some dice and dice bags. I did buy 3 new bandanas. I’ll be cruising more of the Dealer’s Room on Saturday.
