Insects & Violence: Kaiju Beetle VS Tokyo

“Are we connected, Dale? Okay. Live in 3…2…1…Hello there, everyone. I’m Ray Haines live from Japan where an enormous beetle emerged from inside a mountain and is ravaging the countryside.

The first sighting was in Nagano Prefecture where surviving witnesses said a 20 meter long beetle burst out of a the side of Mount Kirigamine and moved quickly toward the city of Suwa. It’s speed was estimated at near 70 miles an hour and when it reached Suwa, it began attacking and eating people and animals. Within 2 hours, it had doubled in size.

A combined attack force of the Japanese Defense Force and US Navy pilots was totally destroyed when the beetle flew into the attacking planes. The shell of this creature seems completely resistant to bullets and rockets. Then it headed toward Tokyo.

Our crew was here in Tokyo covering the big electronics show when the sirens went off. Traffic jammed up within a few minutes and so we started running away from the western side of the city, where the creature arrived. It took us 2 hours to go about 7 miles, and during that time we heard the updates from local radio.

The beetle has killed and eaten thousands by now, and has grown to 175 meters, or about 575 feet, long and stands 300 feet tall. It has destroyed countless buildings and about half of the city is now on fire. We’ll keep broadcasting as we continue to head toward the river and hopefully, a boat to safety.

It sounds like the fighting is moving closer, from north of us. There’s so much smoke that we can’t see more than a couple of hundred yards, and the general noise is deafening.

Damn, our guide has twisted his ankle and…OH NO! OH NO! THERE IT IS! RUN! RU…AIIIEEE!”
