She’s Got It Bad And That Ain’t Good

…and I’ve got it good and it ain’t bad.

Doc Update #278

1: Few things mark the difference between myself and my younger geek chums as vividly as the fact that I will have no problem waiting another week or so to go see the new Star Wars flick. Ya see, most of them were pre-teens or teens when Star Wars came out. It’s part of their whole growing up thing. I saw Star Wars when I was 23 and coming out of a terrible marriage (to say nothing of having thrown off the shackles of the U.S. Navy a few months earlier). For me, Star Wars was a great movie…for them, it was a life altering experience. On the other hand, I’m REALLY looking forward to seeing Batman Beyond as soon as it hits the theaters. And I WILL be at the first showing of Peter Jackson’s King Kong.

2: It has been warm and rainy here and my garden is going completely apeshit. Beautiful, but apeshit. I’ve got tons of coreopsis showing off their yellow splendor…half a dozen shades of blue and purple in my various varieties of lavender…red and white little blossoms all over my several autumn sages…pinks, reds, whites and combinations thereof in my dianthus…and everything from reddish brown to white in my gazanias. Soon, there will come hordes of bees and butterflies and hummingbirds.

3: I am slowly adapting to my greatly reduced caffeine and chile intake. I have somewhat less get up and go, but my stomach pains are gone. The worst thing is that my gastrointestinal system seems to be trying to alter the speed with which it processes food. This is not a great deal of fun and I’m hoping it doesn’t last too much longer.

4: Related to the above bit, I have so far showed more discipline about no soda/tea/spicy food than I would have thought possible. One week down and one week to go and I’ll start back with the spicy food. Another couple weeks and I’ll allow myself TWO human sized cups of tea a day. Soda, I have decided, is gone from my presence for good…much as I quite using sugar in most things about 35 years ago.

5: Since Grace and I will not be getting our usual long summer vacation, we are considering going to GenCon SoCal this year. It’s pretty cheap for us to do and we can drive down to Los Angeles pretty easily. Still, there is a possibility we might not go and instead save our money for a vacation in early 2006 or a REALLY good vacation trip to Origins in mid-2006. We shall see how things go in the next few months.
