Chapter 52: In Which Our Hero Goes Undercover As A London Rat Catcher To Save Tom From The Church

…and a REALLY naughty vicar

A request for help from my techie homies

Short form: water spilled on the table yesterday, laptop got a bit in thru the bottom. dried it out (it really was just a tiny bit of water), but when restarted, got a “stuck key” error message. Dried entire laptop by putting it in the hot car for a couple of hours. Seemed to work ok IF we used an external keyboard, but today, keeps acting as tho the enter key (we think) is being held down.

So, what to do? It’s a Dell Inspiron, about 7 years old, running XP. We will be ok with using an external keyboard, if we can totally disable the on board keyboard.

Thanks in advance.

  1. I’m Dell certified, and that sounds kind of unusual about moisture at the bottom dissing the keyboard, but I’ve seen weirder.
You can totally disable the keyboard by unplugging the cable inside which isn’t hard to do, but not always intuitive. If you can post the 7-digit service code, I can look it up for you.

    1. Thanks. the problem seems to have mostly cleared up, except for the “I” key going off like this: lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
every so often. tapping the key (on the laptop keyboard) stops it.
