Gummy Kaiju

…they keep trying to destroy Tokyo with their sweet stickiness

The Trip to DogCon 3: Day 3, Part 1, In which we visit a couple of quickly viewed attractions and then take a walk in the woods.

We slept in a bit, getting up at 8:30 and leaving the KOA at 10:00. Our first stop of the day was at exactly what you’d expect in Idaho, The Potato House. It’s a 2 story house made to look like a humongous Russet Potato. There is no charge to view it, but they do sell fridge magnets (have I mentioned that Grace buys a fridge magnet at pretty much every place we stop? She has been doing it for our entire marriage. By now, it’s pretty hard to tell what our refrigerator is unless somebody opens the door.) and t-shirts, both of which we bought. 15 minutes later, we were back on the road, heading towards the Nez Perce reservation (through which Highway 12 passes) and the town of Orofino, home of the Painted Tourist Rocks.

I would just like to say that my Dad is the Greatest Dad In The Galaxy! He gave me smoked salmon for breakfast. Lucy and Winker agree with this, since he gave them each a big chunk of beef jerky for breakfast. Life is good, although I would like to eat one of those mountain bluebirds we keep seeing.

The Painted Tourist Rocks are found in a small park that the Nez Perce has set aside so non-native people can fulfill their overwhelming need to leave their mark on places they visit. According to the sign, there are 11,000 rocks here with names, dates, words of wisdom, political slogans and general stuff painted on them. The tribe even provides the paint and a rock for $2.00. We got 4…one for each human and 1 for the critters. After decorating our rocks (which, in the critters case, involved paw prints), we stacked them up and left. No t-shirts or fridge magnets here.

He dipped my right front paw in PAINT! Then he dipped it in SOAPY WATER to clean it! I feel so violated.

Some miles later, we decided to take a stroll through the pine forest. Unlike last year, we encountered no bears, but we did see a couple of deer, many chipmunks,

CHIPMUNKS! Great Ceiling Cat, this place is crawling with them! Oh, how I hate harnesses and leashes!

an eagle, a rabbit and some quail. The Girls and Flash wanted to chase them, (well, ok, Lucy & Flash wanted to chase them. Winker wanted to befriend them.) but I wouldn’t hear of it.

My predatory ancestors look upon me with shame:(

Now that our woodsy walk is done, it’s time to head on down the road towards our ultimate goal of Missoula, Montana. More bloggage later.
