Altered (United) States: Kentucky “Faster horses”
On Earth 36-B, horses born and raised in Kentucky are markedly different from horses anywhere else. For one thing, they come in colors not found on other horses: purple, blue, green, yellow, orange and combinations of those colors. The very best horses almost look tie dyed. Secondly, these Kentucky equines are much smarter than other horses. Finally, they are just way faster than any other land animal on earth, cheetahs included. The fastest speed ever clocked by a horse from Kentucky was 87 miles per hour, a speed that the horse kept up for just over 20 minutes. At speeds closer to 45 miles an hour, they can run for a solid 2 hours.
It is because of these fantastic speeds and their intelligence that these horses are used by messengers all over the world. No government is without a large stable of Kentucky Wonders, especially if they plan on having any serious cavalry in their army. Indeed, in the recent war between France and Spain, it was the excellent Spanish cavalry that defeated the French.
Naturally, the United States Government is the major buyer of Kentucky horses, both for the 30,000 man strong cavalry and the continent spanning Pony Express mail service.
