The Only Way Out: Of This Valley
“Ya say ya came in here via a teleport spell? Let me guess, ya got on the wrong end of old Uzera the Miraculous? Yeah, over the years, she’s sent 30-40 people here, from farmers to shopkeepers to a prince. She’s a crabby old bitch, for sure.
Here? Oh, well, this here’s Crater Valley. Long ago, this mountain was a volcano. Sages tell that at some point, it cooled off and this valley sort of built up in it. Then, later on, that there river started runnin’ in up toward the eastern side, cuttin’ straight across the valley, then out the other side. Over the years, critters dropped seeds and such in here until there was woods and fields and whatnot.
Oh, the first people got here when a Ovuskin skyship crash here 200 years ago. 116 passengers, 22 crew, all stuck here. But see, they were settlers headed for the Eastern Hills, so they had chickens, ducks, pigs, and lots of seeds ans plants. They figured that if escapin’ was so damned hard, they’d just settle here. Over time other people wandered in, 2 or 3 at a time, back before the only way in got blocked off by Great Trolls. That was, oh, 20 years ago or more. Now, we only get new folks in if they piss off Uzera, like you did.
How do ya leave? Well, ya can’t climb the crater walls. And the eastern route just leads up into those mountains and the Storm Giants. No, if you want to get outta here, you’ll have to follow the river through a narrow canyon and then survive a 1,200 foot drop into the lake below. That’s the only way out of this valley.
