The Alphabet: Z Is For…Zoom Ring
The Zoom Ring was a magical ring that allowed a person to move for up to 2 hours at 10 times normal speed. A person walking at 5 miles per hour normally, would thus be moving at 50 miles an hour, and could cover up to 100 miles in the two allotted hours. The ring could be used up to three times per day for 4 days, then required a full 48 hours to recharge.
It is by using the Zoom ring and a primitive sort of bicycle that Nemara Trox and her halfling friend, Albis, were able to make it from the Western end of the Long And Very Winding Road, to the Eastern end. So far, they are the only people to do it.
At an average speed of 120 miles an hour, they were logging an average of 720 miles a day, or 2,880 every 6 days. Including times they stopped to rest in friendly towns or hide from dangers they could not outrun, they completed the entire 29,000 mile trip in 28 days.
Shortly after arriving in Bright Bay at the endpoint, the ring crumbled to dust. The bicycle is in the People’s Museum in Bright Bay.
