Why, you may well ask, would a woman in her early 70s dress herself up as a somewhat older woman who speaks with a mild Norwegian accent and seems ever so slightly befuddled by the modern world?
Why, to get up to shenanigans, of course.
As Imogen, Avis is able to charm people who think that this lovable little granny is just the sweetest person who just needs a bit of help. And Imogen is so kind and wise that younger folks take her adviceon all sorts of things. They feel safe confessing their hopes and fears to her.
And then Imogen gives them advice on everything from careers to relationships, often citing examples from “my country, back when”.
It’s actually pretty nice of Avis, plus lots of these folks buy her coffees and meals, too.
