Mistakes Were Made: The Wrong Bus Problem

Hector had a reputation of being a bit inattentive from time to time, especially if he was reading a good book. His family and friends had learned to deal with it, mostly by tapping him on the arm or shoulder and saying “Wakey wakey, Hector.”

But on the day in question, Hector got off work and while sitting at the bus stop, started reading his latest book. A few minutes later, a bus pulls up and he gets on. Hector felt pretty good about getting on his bus on the first try, which was not a usual thing. And so he relaxed for his 20 minute ride home.

Unfortunately, he had gotten on the wrong bus and by the time he realized it, he was an hour away from where he started and in the opposite direction from home. Worse yet, the only other bus running back to his workplace would take over an hour to get there.

Hector arrived home three hours late and his wife had to re-heat his dinner for him.
