The Alphabet Bestiary: H Is For…Hoomka
Name: Hoomka
Type: Small Fae
Size: 1 foot tall, 1.5 pounds
Habitat: Light temperate woods
General Information: Not all creatures are dangerous or annoying. Hoomkas, despite being a type of fae, are friendly, helpful, and if you’ll excuse us, positively adorable.
Hoomka look very much like children’s stuffed toys. They are brightly colored, were cute outfits, and can resemble any one of a dozen species, from bears to puppies to ducks to pigs. Their voices are those of children. They possess potent magical power, which they use to give aid and help to travelers of good intention. Or sometimes not so good, but interesting intention.
Ways Hoomka can help travelers have been recorded as including…
Healing wounds
Preparing food
Hiding them from enemies
Relating important information
Cleaning clothes and equipment
Breaking curses, if possible
Seasoned travelers who encounter Hoomka know to leave them something in payment, be it gold or interesting bits of cloth.
