Alt. Conventions: Hippie Convergence West
On Earth 4-A, there was no 1967 Summer of Love. Instead, from 1966 to 1972, there were SEVEN Summers of Love. By 1968, the phenomenon and culture could be found in many countries all over the world. Combined with the Influenza Pandemic of 1967-68, hippies helped end the Vietnam War, get the Equal Rights Amendment passed, and cause several other big changes. By 1972, hippies were just part of several cultures and the world was a happier and more peaceful place.
The first Hippie Convergence West happened in in May of 1975 in the Central Valley of California, near Modesto. It was very much like Woodstock, but with more bands, much better organization, better facilities, and no damned rain. It was held on the 2,000 acre ranch of Jake “MoonWolf” Packer. 200,000 people showed up for it and it was peaceful and fun.
Within 3 years, there were 8 other Hippie Convergences around the world, but HC West is still the biggest. The venue now covers 4,500 acres and attracts around 350,000 attendees. It last 5 days and features roughly 120 musical acts.
