…the carnage was horrifying

Alt. Conventions: Super Con
Super Con is not a convention that superpowered people attend. No, this Earth 566-F con is actually where normal folks come to try and get superpowers and then, if they do get them, learn the ins and outs of heroing. There is also a large dealer’s room featuring hero equipment from costumes to gadgets to vehicles.
The con moves around from country to country every year, mostly among countries with very lax laws about consumer protection or lawsuits over death or dismemberment. Some of the more popular “power vendors” include…
Dr. Parker’s Radioactive Menagerie: Get bitten by radioactive animals from ants to bears and see if you get powers. Their success rate is about 1in 30,000. Better than the lottery, but still dicey and painful.
Allen Inc. Chemical Baths: Dive into a pool of random chemicals, with or without high voltage, and see what happens. Most common results? Skin burns, total hair loss, blindness, and death.
Lee & Kirby Medical Experimentation: Get injected with anything from experimental cancer cures to animal DNA to just a random mix. Mutations are fairly common. Powers, not so much.
B. Banner Radiation: Get exposed to anything from cosmic rays to gamma rays! Death is often instantaneous, but any powers are very cool.
The con runs 5 days, usually in July. All memberships include a free cremation if you die.
