Places Along The Winding Road: The Hellwoods
This is a place that does not at all live up to it’s name, but nonetheless is avoided by travelers, even though going around it adds many days to travel time.
Most local folk will tell you that the Hellwoods are infested with hundreds of horrible monsters, from bloodpups to phase zombies to porcubears. And they are correct! The forest, which measures 120 miles east to west and 90 miles south to north, probably has the most varied selection of monsters found anywhere on the planet.
But they are all entirely peaceful and intelligent. True, they do sometimes roar, and even sometimes leave the forest to stage mock battles near the edges, but anyone who actually follows The Road through the woods will never be harmed and will be offered food and shelter. As an added bonus, the mana level is Medium High, so mages may recharge easily as they travel.
It should be noted that the ruler of the Hellwoods is a Greater Firedragon named Gantoziximol. However, he has been asleep these last 150 years.
