Alt. Cross Family Dogs: Silky
Full Name: Silky Dawn Cross
Breed: Foxhound/Husky/?
After Daisy died in early 2019, we took an assignment to go travel Australia on the recently completed Great Triangle High Speed Railway, which took us a month, then went on to visit friends in India and Africa for another two months. We discussed getting another dog or two, and agreed to look for a bonded pair when we got home.
Well, we found that bonded pair in Silky and Luke. They were 7 years old, had been raised together, and were inseparable. We brought them home on October 1, 2019.
Silky was a beautiful girl who was mostly foxhound & husky, but had something else in her genetics that made her thick coat very soft and silky, thus her name. She was an active dog, even at 7. Her hunting instincts were good, and our yard was a place of fear for squirrels. She was also a big lover of fetch and catching frisbees. And, of course, she loved playing with Luke.
Her husky side would pop up in being totally screwy from time to time, as well as being very vocal when she was angry or upset. It also made her very friendly to other dogs and humans, especially kids. She would often wear out our grandkids when they visited.
Silky was very healthy for most of her life, but around age 11, she began to slow down due to general old age problems. She died in her sleep in our back yard just 2 weeks after her 12th birthday. She and Luke are buried under our lemon tree.
