Places You Forget: Balya
(A tip of the old bandana to Spike Jones for suggesting this theme.)
From a lecture series given at the Adventurers Club of Valduria, by Wizard Gladoria
Balya. Lost Balya, home of the Golden Folk and the Ivory City. It tantalizes us every few years with a sighting, or even a visit, by some person or small group. We have dozens of small artifacts, coins, and other samples that prove it does indeed exist, but we have not one single person that can tell us even what general area they were traveling through when they encountered it. An entire country, nearly 100 miles across, hidden away.
Here now, a bit from the diary of Sister Bomia, dated Month of the Dragon, 9th day, 1176.
“When we work up this morning and started chatting about the healing oil we got in Balya, it dawned on all of us that we had no idea where we encountered the border into or out of Balya or when we left or even how long we had been traveling since leaving. After much thought, and Framkin saying his beard was at least 3 days old, and he certainly had a good shave the day before we left. But had we ridden out to the south? The west or east? North? Did we walk our horses or trot? Did we change direction? We will never know, and that makes me sad.”
So Balya remains the crowning jewel of forgotten places. Hopefully, some day the Golden People will reveal themselves.
