Places You Forget: Castle Milgoss
(A tip of the old bandana to Spike Jones for suggesting this theme.)
From a lecture series given at the Adventurers Club of Valduria, by Wizard Gladoria
As the saying goes in the Southern Lands, “Everyone knows what Castle Milgoss is, and they are all glad they can’t find it.”
Of all the memory altering places we have discussed, the undead infested Castle Milgoss is the one nobody wants to find. Oh, the vampires, ghouls, and zombies want you to find it, but the castle itself does not want to be found. That’s what happens when your band of roaming undead slaughter everyone in a castle, including one of the most powerful priests of the last century.
When he was near death, after killing well over 30 undead of various kinds, Father Windstorm, unleashed his Death Curse. “You wanted this castle, and you shall have it for a thousand years, but no others shall find it!” With that, his body burst into flames and then disappeared.
The well accepted theory is that the good Father became part of the castle, allowing him to keep anyone from finding it and getting inside. He also got word out as to what happened, and since then, anyone happening to see the castle steers clear of it before forgetting about it.
We do not know how many undead are in Castle Milgoss, but the vampires especially must be mad from hunger. Their only sustenance has been small animals and birds, and very few of them. The zombies have surely rotted away by now, and the ghouls are surviving on the rotted flesh of the animals the vampires drain.
And so we should all thank Father Windstorm for making Castle Milgoss as forgettable as it is.
