Places You Forget: Whitewood

(A tip of the old bandana to Spike Jones for suggesting this theme.)

From a lecture series given at the Adventurers Club of Valduria, by Wizard Gladoria

Our final place that gets forgotten is, conversely, one of the best known places among adventurers, and even lone travelers.

Of course, I’m speaking of the Whitewood. Few, if any, among us have not found that peaceful place of rest and restoration when we sorely needed it. Tired, hungry, most likely injured, a group will walk into that strikingly beautiful woods and feel better immediately. Then the Maidens of the Whitewood appear bearing food, clean clothing, and refreshing drinks. Soon, after bathing in the nearby warm pond, one feels so much better, and soon falls asleep. Upon awakening, you find yourself healed, well rested, and ready to eat the breakfast laid out before you.

It is an experience we remember fondly and discuss for years, even decades, after. I see many smiles out there that prove my point.

Of course, the Whitewood vanishes once we leave it, and takes much of the details with it. Does anyone recall exactly what the Maidens look like? How large the woods are? What exactly we ate? No, we cant. The experience isburned into our memories, but not the details.

And, of course, finding the Whitewood is impossible, because it moves to where it is needed. My group needed it in the Eastern Hills, but Lord Redbeard found it on the island of Gargantua, while Nixty and Renx found it not far outside the Glass City of Vulmar. Indeed, it is well known that the Whitewood has appeared in places a thousand miles apart on the same day.

Whatever god or being we have to thank for the Whitewood, deserves our highest praise, even if we all wish we could remember that food.
