Mad, Bad, And Dangerous To Know: Lady Fairbairn

(A tip of the old bandana to Caroline King for inspiring this theme.)

Ladies and gentlemen, you’ve been call here because a threat to both the United Kingdom and Europe has suddenly arisen. Two very bad things have intersected to cause this: the criminal organization called the Wicked Sisterhood and the supposedly lost formula of Dr. Henry Jekyll.

You are all familiar with the Jekyll/Hyde crime spree of winter and spring of 1886. Indeed, several of us were around back then and read about the horrific crimes undertaken by Hyde before he was finally killed in the fire that destroyed Jekyll’s laboratory. We thought that was the last of it.

The Wicked Sisterhood has been a thorn in the side of law enforcement on every continent. The women behind it, to quote Mr. Sherlock Holmes, “the greatest assembly of criminally inclined genius the world has ever seen.” The fact that in 1898 they took over Professor Moriarty’s organization proved that. For the past thirty years, the best anyone could do, from Scotland Yard to crimefighters like Doc Tempest, was stop the individual crime once in awhile. The machine never stopped moving. Until three nights ago.

You’ve all heard of the terrible explosion and fire in Bromley, where the manor house of Lord Fairbairn was totally destroyed, along with everyone in it. The fire burned for 22 hours. Very little was recovered, but one survivor was found. She had been running out the rear door when the first explosion went off. She was blown 40 feet through the air into a small pond. Only the fact that she was in the water and behind a large granite statue saved her.

She is in bad shape in hospital, but expected to recover. When she woke up this morning, she told Officer Hemphill here what happened before the explosion. It seems that Lord Fairbairn, who was 80 years old, was a virtual prisoner in the house these last 5 years. It seems that his young wife, Lady Victoria Fairbairn, was in fact a member if the Sisterhood and had brought in all of the upper echelon to live five years ago. They had been planning something very big, according to our witness, though she had no exact details.

She was sure, however, that it involved the Hyde formula and several important men. However two days before the fire, the witness heard Lady Fairbairn arguing with a Doctor Parks about the formula. It seems Lady Fairbairn wanted to try it out, to experience being fully evil. The doctor told her no and said she would report the to the leaders if she did not stop asking.

Two nights later, at a general meeting during dinner, her Ladyship apparently stood up and said “Let’s see what real evil looks like!” before injecting herself with what Doctor Parks screamed was “too much.”

Our witness said the transformation took seconds, and Lady F grew to over 2 meters tall and bulging with muscles. Her face was described as looking demonic. She was laughing hysterically, then with great speed slew the entire assembled leadership of the Sisterhood. From there she started killing servants and destroying everything in sight.

Our witness only escaped by hiding under a table until the monster went down to the basement laboratories. Then she ran for it. After the explosion, she didn’t remember much else, except that she thinks the monster escaped. This was later corroborated by a lorry driver who says he saw a “huge creature” run across the road several miles east of Bromley.

And so, gentlemen and ladies, we have an much worse version of Hyde running loose. It seems as of this morning that Lady Fairbairn entered a bank and withdrew several thousand pounds sterling. She has not been seen since.

Our job now is to locate her and determine how to stop her.
