Ranking on the Top 40: 1

The great songwriter Bob Nilsson once said you could never go wrong writing a song of love about a kid or a dog. This one hit wonder by then recent immigrant Alexi Rospin proves that. A simple song about a father talking to his sleeping 2 year old daughter, it was a massive hit, staying in the Top Ten for 3 months and the Top 40 for another 5 months.

The song, sung only to the guitar played by Rospin, made people smile, cry, and hug their kids. Rospin would later explain that he wrote the song in under an hour, using lines he actually said to his sleeping daughter, Katya. When he sang it on national television, on the Murray Meldon Show, Katya was seated next to him on a sofa. She fell asleep halfway through.

Rospin never again had a hit song, despite recording 3 albums. He eventually went to work as an artist, doing mostly album covers. In 2022, Katya Rospin graduated from medical school. She is now an OB/GYN in Denver, Colorado.
