Frog Pie

…it’s croakalicious!

I’m just about to leave on my evening walk and I thought I’d repost something I just posted on RPGnet. It concerns yet another thread about expanding the roleplaying hobby beyond the usual suspects and into the world of non-gamers. Here ya go:

Skipping over all of the other “How do we bring in new players/expand the hobby” posts, the answer is dead simple:

Write a game using the popular computer/console games as your model of play. VERY VERY simple rules, instant immersion, lots of asskicking, a few puzzles, power ups, side quests, phat loot AND…a definite ending that totally rocks.

Once you have them hooked on that game, it’s all about the sequels and spinoffs.

Will this new game appeal to old time rolegamers? No, but then, they didn’t buy multimillions of copies of D&D 3E the way the target audience did for GTA or Halflife or Doom, did they?
