Sister Bomia’s Adventure Diary
We Leave Widdly-By-The-Sea
Wolfsday 1, White Moon Month, Year 25 of the Golden Emperor
Dear Brand New Diary,
Well, here I am, once again starting a new diary in the wee hours of the morning. We will be leaving Widdly-By-The-Sea shortly after sunrise, off on another adventure, but this one will be much different from raiding dungeons or going off to destroy some evil being or creature. No, this time, we are off on a mission from the Council of Sages to follow, or try to follow, the ancient Great Road that once spanned this continent from sea to sea.
We have received this important, and yes, well paying, assignment partly through the recommendation of the High Mother Superior of my Church. Being a respected Sage in matters of Ancient History, it was she who first suggested the idea of rediscovering the Great Road. I am told that beside her proposing us to undertake it, our handling of the Vampire Queen and our locating the Lost Treasure of Janamet IV convinced the other 20 Sages on the Council that we could do the job.
This will be a long trip, Diary, a full year or more. Taking that into consideration, as well as how often I have missed daily entries into my other diaries, I have decided to post in you only on a weekly basis. I fully expect some “weeks” may be more or less than seven days long, given the unpredictability of the adventuring life. I will try my best.
Our party numbers five this time, due to Corenna having retired from adventuring to marry Lord Telbeck’s oldest son, Armus. They are expecting a child midway through the month of the Sky Whale.
Despite losing our archer, I think we shall do well. Halana, Grettin, Amella, Olivia & I have spent the last three months improving our abilities in combat, magic, thievery and other skills. I have spent the last month in isolation, brewing up potions of healing, curing and protection by day and meditating and communing with the Mother Goddess by night. Olivia has been studying arcane texts to learn new spells. I think she may have enchanted a couple of items, too.
Halana and Grettin have been honing their already impressive combat skills and going out for days completely unarmed and unarmored on “survival trips”. Both of them have several new scars and tattoos. I pity any being or creature that tries to give them trouble.
Amella spent a month early on in Barston Bay, a large city 50 miles southeast of us along the coast. I don’t really want to know how she was honing her thievery skills, but she returned here very late one night, cut her blonde hair short, dyed it black and then spent the next month and a half practicing lock picking, sleight of hand and climbing. She also seems to have improved her knife throwing and her skill with her hand crossbow.
I must admit, I will miss Widdly-By-The-Sea. It’s a beautiful little summer vacation town that is just now starting to see the arrival of early tourists. I’ll especially miss the seafood at Trefor’s. So delicious!
I must get some rest now, Diary. Sunrise is only 5 hours away. I’ll do another entry next week.
