Passing Through Eskadia

Ottersday 1, White Moon Month, Year 25 of the Golden Emperor

Dear Diary,

I’m sorry it has been 9 days since my last entry, but after leaving Widdly-By-The-Sea, we rode for two days through rather boring farmland, so their was not much to write about. It was so boring for Amella, Halana and Grettin, that the three of then began making up dirty limericks and songs. I will not repeat them here, although the one about the Farm Boy From Dairytown was actually quite funny and only somewhat filthy.

After two days we came to the little village of Red Tree, at the edge of the great Eskadian forest. We decided to spend the night there, since travel through the forest might not give us many nights of decent sleep. I must say that the folks at the Red Tree Inn keep a very clean and well run establishment with very comfy beds.

The next morning, we were off into Eskadia. Now, I must remind you that the route we are following was established long ago on the remains of the Great Road. The present route has been here for at least 600 years and the Great Road fell into ruins 300 years before that. This part of our journey will have an easy path to follow until we reach the Wall Mountains.

Well, easy except for passing through Eskadia. The woods are made up of very large trees and since the Eskadians live very high up in those trees, the ground below is full of wildlife and great beasts. And did I mention that not only are the woods tall, they are 90 miles from side to side and the roads that run through them twist around all manner of obstructions. Graves of sacred trees, lakes, huge rock outcroppings, a 100 foot deep canyon…these are just some of the things preventing more than about a mile of straight road anywhere in Eskadia.

Oh, diary, we encountered wild animals, foul creatures created by arcane means, magical traps, some undead (zombies, which I destroyed with a Blessed Ray Of Life) and some bandits upon whom we vented our frustration with those damned woods.

After a full week in Eskadia, we emerged into the hill country of Pasmardeen. We are ensconced in the Better Rest Inn, in the town of Golin, for the next two days while we rest up and eat decent food. After that, we are on to nearby Grand Lake (actually an inland freshwater sea) and then across said lake.

I’ll write more in a few days.
